I could not find it stated anywhere that it is not supported. I tried a USB harddrive and I can play the music from that just fine. I went on the Onkyo website to compare both models.

In effect my 2005 low tech onkyo receiver has more power to drive the speakers than the included receiver. Also the HT-S580 system's speakers are ported plastic enclosures - very loud for what they are. Honestly the quality is high enough you don't hear the distortion you'd expect from lesser systems (sometimes can mistaken for being 'louder').

It's now really up to you and depends on the price you can grab it..... Also, if you want to avoid the hassle of choosing separates elements and so, this kit might fit the bill. I'm upgrading from Sony STR-DN1000 receiver with small Sony speakers.
Checking if the site connection is secure
So to me - the receiver is matched with the wrong speakers, or the speakers are matched with the wrong receiver. I also noticed that my IPOD classic color screen 80 GB did not get recognized when I plug it in the USB port. Does anyone use this older IPOD with the Onkyo 9400? I could not find it stated anywhere that it is not supported. I tried a USB harddrive and I can play the music from that just fine. I went on the Onkyo website to compare both models.
I can turn it as high as 75 and it doesn't sound too loud. I am not sure if I have the setup the speakers right. I connected my USB player and it sounded a lot louder .

In effect my 2005 low tech onkyo receiver has more power to drive the speakers than the included receiver. The features of the receivers are nice, they support 3D and have DTS HD MA and Dolby TrueHD and it has Audyssey room correction software I think it only has 2EQ which is the lowest version but still better than nothing.... Also don't really pay attention to the freq resp listed for the speakers and sub.

I just can't find any recessed speaker plates or attached mounting fasteners. I'm reading that they are heavier, which I like, but don't want to choose the wrong angled wall mounts. After reading posts in the forum, I have decided to go with discrete setup. I do own a HT-S9100 THX which is the "grandfather" of the 9400.
